Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi hosted Finland’s President Alexander Stubb in Cairo on Tuesday, discussing ways to strengthen economic and investment cooperation alongside key regional developments in the Middle East. Both leaders expressed appreciation for bilateral ties and interest in expanding partnerships across multiple sectors.
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received Finland’s President Alexander Stubb in Cairo during an official visit, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency. The leaders held bilateral talks followed by an expanded session with their delegations.
Al-Sisi expressed Egypt’s appreciation for its ties with Finland, stressing the importance of expanding cooperation in trade and investment, while enhancing links between the two countries’ business communities. Stubb was accompanied by a delegation of Finnish business leaders, reflecting Finland’s interest in expanding investments in Egypt.
At a joint press conference, Al-Sisi said both sides agreed to explore new partnership areas, including information and communications technology, digital transformation, renewable energy, education, healthcare, and advanced industries. The talks also addressed cooperation with the European Union, with Al-Sisi highlighting the strategic partnership and Finland’s supportive role.
On regional matters, Al-Sisi emphasized the need for coordination to achieve stability, reaffirming Egypt’s rejection of attacks on Arab states and support for Gulf security as part of its national security. They discussed Gaza developments, with Al-Sisi calling for ceasefire adherence, implementation of the second phase of a US-proposed plan, and sustained humanitarian access. He reiterated rejection of Palestinian displacement attempts and stressed the two-state solution as the path to peace. Discussions covered Sudan, Lebanon, and Libya, with backing for a Sudan ceasefire and territorial integrity.
Stubb expressed appreciation for bilateral relations and Finland’s interest in deepening cooperation, as well as ongoing consultations with Cairo on regional and international issues. Both sides noted broad alignment and significant potential for expanded collaboration.
