Floods in Banjar regency, South Kalimantan, have affected 116,027 people and inundated 22,991 homes, according to the local Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). Thousands of residents remain displaced as authorities prepare temporary and permanent housing solutions.
The Banjar Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reports ongoing widespread flood impacts in South Kalimantan's region. As of January 4, 2026, 41,196 households or 116,027 individuals are affected, with 22,991 homes flooded. This data was shared by Acting Head of BPBD Operations Yayan Daryanto while accompanying Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf during a visit to the flood site in Sungai Tabuk subdistrict on that Sunday.
Vulnerable groups are also impacted, including 272 pregnant women, 455 infants, 1,521 toddlers, 2,380 children, 275 people with disabilities, and 2,911 elderly. Damaged public facilities include 141 schools, 131 places of worship, 18 office buildings, 96 public amenities, 18 bridges, and 3,451 hectares of farmland and gardens.
Currently, 5,045 people remain evacuated as floods have not fully receded. The flood coverage has decreased from 16 subdistricts to eight. Yayan Daryanto explained this fluctuation, stating, “This is due to regional comparisons where upstream areas may be slightly affected, but downstream along the river, almost all areas are flooded.”
For further response, after the emergency phase ends, BPBD will conduct field assessments to determine needs for temporary housing (huntara) or other aid, including house damage categories.
