This warning covers several districts and cities prone to flooding and landslides. Additionally, BMKG predicts extreme rain in West Java and heavy rain in various other regions on January 21.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued the highest early warning for high rainfall (PDCHT) in the form of an alert status for Central Java's northern coastal (Pantura) areas during the third decade of January 2026, from January 21-31. Potential rainfall could reach 200-300 millimeters per decade, risking floods, water pooling, and landslides in disaster-prone areas.

"This alert status is the highest early warning in the High Rainfall Early Warning (PDCHT) that needs to be anticipated together," said Teguh Wardoyo, Head of the Data Services and Information Dissemination Working Team at BMKG Tunggul Wulung Meteorology Station in Cilacap, on Wednesday (January 21, 2026).

Alert status areas include Tegal, Pemalang, Pekalongan, Batang, Demak, Kudus, Jepara Regencies, and Pekalongan City. Heavy to very heavy rain is also likely in Bengkulu, Lampung, Banten, Jakarta, Central Java, Special Region of Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, and Papua Mountains. Medium to heavy rain is expected in other areas, with light rain possible in cities like Semarang and Yogyakarta.

Thick cloud cover is anticipated in Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Jambi, Tanjung Pinang, Pontianak, Palangkaraya, Banjarmasin, with hazy air potential in Samarinda. In eastern regions, thunderstorms with rain may occur in Kupang and Merauke, with moderate rain in Mataram, Mamuju, Kendari, and Ternate.

BMKG urges local governments and the public to heighten vigilance and monitor the latest weather information. "We urge the public to continuously monitor the latest weather information from BMKG and immediately take anticipatory steps to reduce hydrometeorological disaster risks," added Teguh. BMKG forecaster Ranika Asti emphasized, "Make sure to always update weather information through the bmkg.go.id website and our social media at @info.bmkg."
