Colson Montgomery missed Sunday's game for the Chicago White Sox against the Houston Astros due to a shin injury sustained the previous night.
Montgomery fouled a pitch off his right shin during the ninth inning of Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Astros. He remained in that game long enough to record a single that drove in a run.
The shortstop had already missed a game earlier in the week on July 21 after fouling a ball off the same area. He described the latest contact as aggravating an existing inflammation and said he expected to return Monday after treatment.
White Sox manager Will Venable expressed cautious optimism about Montgomery's availability while noting the possibility of another absence. Teammate Kyle Teel offered a modified catcher's shin guard design, which Montgomery declined to use.
Montgomery has hit 45 home runs with 114 RBIs in 169 career games since his debut on July 4, 2025.
