Drunk driver hits two minors in Mendoza

A 44-year-old driver was detained in Godoy Cruz, greater Mendoza, after striking a 5-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy who were walking. Tests showed a blood alcohol level of 2.45 grams per liter, five times the legal limit of 0.5 g/l. Both minors suffered injuries and were hospitalized.

The incident took place in the Los Barrancos 2 neighborhood, at the intersection of El Salvador and Cuba streets. The man was driving a Volkswagen Gol, lost control, and struck the victims, police reported.

Officers from Comisaría 50° and the Coordinated Emergency Service (SEC) responded to neighbors' calls for help. The 5-year-old girl was diagnosed with multiple traumas and taken to Humberto Notti children's hospital, where she was admitted. The teenager, with minor injuries, was taken by family to another medical center.

The breathalyzer test confirmed 2.45 g/l of alcohol in the driver's blood, far exceeding the provincial limit of 0.5 g/l for private vehicles under Law 9099. The man was detained, and his vehicle impounded at a police station.

The case is handled by Juzgado Contravencional N°1 for traffic law violation.
