The Government of Ethiopia has officially launched the Makatet Roadmap in Addis Ababa. The framework aims to shift refugee support toward long-term socio-economic inclusion and benefits for host communities.
The launch took place at the Adwa Museum during a high-level gathering. Ethiopia’s Honorable Speaker of the HPRs Ato Tagesse Chaffo and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees presided over the event, which ended with a cultural performance by a refugee youth group.
The roadmap was developed through a national process that included federal and regional institutions, development partners, UN agencies, civil society and refugee representatives. It provides a unified plan to move from temporary humanitarian aid to sustainable, government-led development.
Under the framework, existing refugee camps will be transformed into self-sustaining settlements integrated with national service delivery systems. The gathering also served to secure collective investment for the operational phase.
