The government of Javier Milei approved the acquisition of Telefónica Argentina by Telecom, but imposed regulatory conditions including the transfer of 6 million clients.
The decision was made yesterday by the executive branch, according to journalist Eugenia Muzio. The main objective is to prevent Telecom or the Clarín group from reaching 70 percent of the telecommunications market.
Telecom had initially proposed transferring 3 million clients, but the government doubled that figure and also demanded that part of its infrastructure be made available. The company considers the requirement disproportionate and equivalent to about 40 percent of its current business.
The operation was announced in February 2025. Telecom is now evaluating the conditions and analyzing possible legal actions. The final resolution will be known in the coming days.
