State deputy Guilherme Cortez of the PSOL will announce his pre-candidacy for the Federal Chamber of Deputies today.
At 28 years old, Cortez is highlighted by the party as a bet to reconnect the left with young voters. He serves as one of the main opposition voices to Governor Tarcísio de Freitas in the São Paulo State Legislative Assembly.
In March, the deputy conducted a caravan through schools and universities to debate the challenges of Generation Z. Cortez stated that young people are tired of traditional politics and that the far right has engaged with this frustration through social media.
The possible candidacy comes after changes in the PSOL bench in Brasília, including Guilherme Boulos's move to the federal government. Among priority issues, the deputy cites regulation of artificial intelligence, combating climate change, and youth-focused labor matters.
