Hong Kong Cantopop singer and Mirror boy band member Keung To has been fined HK$2,200 (US$280) for careless driving, running a red light and failing to display a probationary “P” plate. The 26-year-old did not appear at Eastern Magistrates' Court on Monday but was represented by a lawyer. The charges stem from a crash last November and a red-light violation a month later.
Keung To was fined HK$1,000 for careless driving at Eastern Magistrates' Court on Monday. Court documents show that on November 28 last year at around 4.14am, he rammed the front side of his vehicle into a railing on Caine Road, damaging both the car and the railing, though there were no casualties.
Keung To reportedly told a police officer at the scene that he had been reaching for his cap in the rear compartment of the car while it was in motion, causing the collision with the pavement railing. The 26-year-old singer obtained his probationary driving licence in February last year.
He was also charged with running a red light at a junction in Kennedy Town a month after the crash. Keung To faced an additional penalty for failing to display the probationary “P” plate on his car. The total fine amounted to HK$2,200.
As a member of the popular boy band Mirror, Keung To is known for hits like King Maker. No injuries were reported in the incidents.
