The National Police in Huila presented a positive security balance for December and year-end festivities, with a significant reduction in homicides and other crimes. This achievement is attributed to preventive work and citizen collaboration, saving several lives in the department.
The Huila Police delivered a positive report on security in December 2025 and during year-end celebrations. Specifically, homicides decreased by 38% compared to the same period the previous year, from 32 to 20 cases, equivalent to 12 lives saved. For the 2025 cumulative, the reduction was 3%, saving eight more lives than in 2024.
Other crimes also showed downward trends. Kidnappings fell by 12%, and extortion by 11%, thanks to preventive efforts, inter-institutional coordination, and citizen reports. In thefts, personal robbery dropped 18% with 363 fewer cases, cell phone theft by 37%, commercial theft by 23%, and residential burglary by 19%.
In rural areas, cattle rustling experienced a drastic 74% decline, highlighting protection for the Huila agricultural sector. During December, authorities seized over 32 kilograms of gunpowder and handled about 30 fights, resulting in 10 injured people.
The 'Desenguayabe' plan remains active to prevent intolerance incidents related to alcohol consumption, ensuring coexistence in the early days of 2026. These measures reflect an ongoing commitment to preserving life and security in the territory.
