Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced on Wednesday that Bengaluru's second airport will be located in Bengaluru South district, with priority given to sites causing minimal displacement of people.
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said he had instructed officials to select a location with fewer human habitations, fewer hills, and technical feasibility. He noted that the site should also feature lower land prices to reduce compensation costs for the government.
“We do not want the project to result in large-scale displacement. It’s ok if we have to rehabilitate only a few houses. I have asked the authorities concerned to pick a location which has lesser number of human habitations, lesser hills and that is technically feasible,” Mr. Shivakumar told media persons.
The announcement followed the first meeting on the proposal since Mr. Shivakumar became Chief Minister. An Airports Authority of India team had inspected three sites in April 2025, and a Singapore consultancy is studying their feasibility.
