KBO clubs are giving ailing pitchers extra rest as the first half of the season ends and the All-Star break nears.
The LG Twins, who lead the KBO at 50-30, will keep left-hander Song Seung-ki on the injured list for two more weeks. Manager Youm Kyoung-youb said Thursday that Song, who had been slated to return from back spasms next Tuesday, will instead pitch after the July 10-15 All-Star break.
The Kiwoom Heroes are resting Dominican starter Raul Alcantara due to right elbow inflammation. Manager Seol Jong-jin said Thursday that Alcantara will miss his next start before the break and was removed from the active roster, with outfielder Im Ji-yeol called up.
Samsung Lions rookie right-hander Jang Chan-hee, 18, will also rest because of pitching-arm inflammation. The Lions said Wednesday that the third-round draft pick, chosen as an All-Star reserve on Monday, will return after the break.
