The Kenya National Highways Authority has reported steady progress on the 740-kilometre Isiolo-Mandera Highway, setting a completion target of January 2028.
KeNHA said the 57-kilometre Wajir-Tarbaj stretch, including a two-kilometre spur into Tarbaj town, is 17 per cent complete. The 64-kilometre Tarbaj-Kotulo section has reached 30 per cent progress.
Construction began in August 2024 and is due for completion on January 31, 2028, according to project engineer Antony Mutua. This differs from an earlier timeline given by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who indicated a June 2027 finish.
The Ksh100 billion project is jointly financed by the World Bank and the Kenyan government. The World Bank approved a Ksh37.6 billion loan weeks ago to support 518 kilometres of the route and the installation of high-capacity fibre optic cable.
