President Claudia Sheinbaum announced Ariadna Montiel's departure from the Welfare Secretariat to seek Morena's leadership, appointing Leticia Ramírez Amaya as replacement. President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced that Ariadna Montiel, head of the Welfare Secretariat since 2022, has resigned to run for Morena's national presidency.
"Today Ariadna told me she is leaving the Welfare Secretariat to advance in other tasks of the movement we all belong to," Sheinbaum wrote on social media. Montiel confirmed: "I share that today I submitted my resignation to President Claudia Sheinbaum to participate in the election for Morena's National Presidency."
Leticia Ramírez Amaya, previously coordinator general of Intergovernmental Affairs and Social Participation at the Presidency, will take over. "President Claudia Sheinbaum, I feel deeply honored and grateful for the trust you have given me," Ramírez posted on X. She added: "We will work with love and conviction so that welfare and social justice continue reaching all Mexican families."
Ramírez is a normalista teacher from the National School of Teachers, with studies in Social Anthropology. She served as Education Secretary from 2022 to 2024, launching the New Mexican School, and previously worked in citizen attention under Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Marcelo Ebrard. The Welfare Secretariat will distribute social programs with a one-trillion-peso budget this year.
