Nearly 2,000 farmers have marched to the outskirts of Bhopal demanding full government procurement of the state's moong crop and resolution of fertiliser issues.
Farmers from Madhya Pradesh marched from Narmadapuram towards Bhopal under the Samyukt Kisan Morcha banner representing 19 organisations. On Tuesday they broke through police barricades at the southern edge of the city.
The group carried sacks of grain, bedding, cooking utensils and food supplies for a week. They stated they will not leave until the government agrees to procure 100 percent of the moong crop.
Protesters invited Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Shivraj Singh Chouhan to join them for dal-bati on the road. Long-standing grievances over fertiliser distribution were also raised.
