A New Hampshire man has been arrested on charges including using a deadly weapon to prevent someone from reporting a crime after allegedly holding a woman against her will at an Olive Garden restaurant.
Daniel Ouellet, 47, was taken into custody by Newington police on June 6 following a welfare check at the restaurant in Newington, New Hampshire. The check was requested after Pennsylvania State Police received a report from the woman's mother, who had tracked her daughter's phone to the location. Police said the woman ran outside in tears upon seeing officers arrive around 11:30 a.m. and showed signs of injury, including cigarette burns on her legs. She told authorities that Ouellet had threatened her family, produced a .45-caliber handgun, and forced her to marry him on June 1 in Lee, New Hampshire. Ouellet claimed the pair were married and that the woman was fleeing a religious cult. He appeared in court on June 8 and denied the allegations. He remains held at the Rockingham County Department of Corrections on preventive detention, with additional charges expected.
