Sean Hernandez faces murder charges after allegedly beating his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter to death in a Philadelphia basement. The incident occurred on December 8, 2025, at a home on the 2100 block of South Beechwood Street. Prosecutors detailed the abuse during a recent court hearing.
Sean Hernandez, 21, who also uses the alias Raafi Gorham, has been charged with murder, endangering the welfare of a child, possession of an instrument of crime with intent, and recklessly endangering another person in the death of Key'Monnie Bean. According to court records and testimony presented on Thursday, the child's body showed signs of suffocation and blunt force trauma to the head and torso, as stated by a forensic pathologist. Key'Monnie's mother, Ka'Nijah Bean, described a climate of fear and abuse during the hearing, as reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer. She recounted that on December 8, 2025, Hernandez grabbed the toddler by the arm, took her to a basement bedroom, and later struck her with a slide sandal while she slept. Bean said Hernandez told the crying child to shut up, tied her hands with a charging cord, wrapped her in a blanket, and stood over her gasping for air with a metal pole. Fearing for her own safety after past incidents involving a machete and a gun, Bean did not intervene. The couple left for ShopRite and returned to find Key'Monnie unresponsive on the floor; she was pronounced dead at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Two others upstairs, Anthony Lowrie, 21, and Alycia McNeill, 20, face obstruction of justice charges for lying to police. Prosecutors showed texts from Hernandez urging Bean to protect him, including one asking, 'You promise you got me, bae?' Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner expressed outrage in December, stating, 'We should be outraged at what happened to this 2-year-old.' Hernandez is expected to return to court on May 21.
