Mariah the Scientist shared insights into her career journey, from discovering music in elementary school to committing fully after college. In a conversation with Billboard and Honda Stage, she described navigating life changes that led her to music over science. She expressed surprise at her growing fanbase worldwide.
Mariah the Scientist discovered her passion for music during elementary school when she joined the chorus. This sparked her interest in the intricacies of music, including sonics and lyrics. Although she received a scholarship to St. John’s University for biology, she began questioning her path toward medical school, where scholarships were scarce. As she told Billboard and Honda Stage, “I really started to feel, hmm, college is cool, but if I want to go to medical school, they don’t really give scholarships out for medical school.” She spent nights on YouTube searching for beats by various artists, amid significant life changes that pushed her toward music. Initially, she never saw herself in the music industry. Her breakthrough came with live shows, where fans' enthusiasm marked her rising success. The singer was particularly shocked by international fans in places like Europe and South Africa, who learned her songs despite language barriers. “What really shocked me is that I’ve gone to a lot of these places... to know that they have learned these songs has blown my mind,” she said. Looking ahead, Mariah the Scientist hopes to be remembered as hardworking and creative, a lover and creator of art.
