Mercedes senior race engineer Marcus Dudley has described the foundation of his working relationship with driver George Russell. The comments came during an appearance on the Nu Silver Arrows Radio Show after the British Grand Prix.
Dudley highlighted the need for mutual trust and ongoing dialogue to extract performance from both the driver and the engineering team. He stressed reviewing communication after each session to identify improvements.
Russell placed second at Silverstone following a slow puncture that was offset by a late safety car. The result narrowed his deficit to teammate and championship leader Kimi Antonelli to 25 points.
Dudley said he pays no attention to online criticism, noting that such comments do not reach him and do not influence his work. Russell reflected on the growth in engineering support from his early career in Formula 4 to the 25 engineers now working trackside in Formula 1.
