Isai ‘N’, nephew of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, was detained Tuesday in Nogales, Sonora, by Mexican authorities executing an extradition order requested by the United States.
Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch said the arrest resulted from military intelligence work by the Secretariat of National Defense in coordination with the Attorney General's Office, the Criminal Investigation Agency and the National Guard.
Isai ‘N’ is identified as a logistical operator for a Sinaloa Cartel faction linked to Los Chapitos. He is accused of coordinating the production and distribution of synthetic drugs to the United States and Costa Rica, including the transfer of 10,000 fentanyl pills.
The detainee faces charges of organized crime and crimes against health. During the operation in Nogales’ Casa Blanca neighborhood, long firearms and cartridges were seized.
García Harfuch noted that the action is part of recent operations against criminal structures and reflects Mexican state coordination to weaken criminal groups.
