Michigan couple gets prison time for child abuse

A Michigan couple has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison for abusing their adopted daughters. Jessica Klimp, 45, and Jason Klimp, 47, pleaded no contest to two counts of first-degree child abuse.

The Klimps received the Michigan sentence of eight years and three months after already being sentenced to 10 years in Tennessee for similar offenses. They had been extradited from Tennessee to face the additional charges in Wexford County.

Authorities found evidence of severe abuse at the couple's home, including a man-made straitjacket, security alarms on bedroom doors, and dog cages used to confine the children. The girls were also starved and forced to eat liquefied food from bottles.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said the convictions aim to deliver justice and healing for the victims. The couple's parental rights have been terminated.

The case began after an arrest in Tennessee in February 2024, when one of the girls collapsed from neglect.
