Michigan man charged after threatening nurses with gun

A 31-year-old man has been charged with multiple felonies after allegedly threatening three nurses with a handgun outside a hospital in Warren, Michigan.

Walter Dwight Smith approached the nurses around 1 a.m. on June 3 while they took a break outside Henry Ford Hospital. Police said he was agitated during a phone call and yelled that he had three nurses he could shoot before producing a black handgun and pointing it at them.

The nurses reported that Smith counted down from six and warned them not to take another step or he would shoot. He then received another call and left the scene on foot.

Smith was arrested later that day. He faces two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, weapon possession by a prohibited person, brandishing a weapon in public, driving without a valid license, and three counts of felony firearm.

He remains in custody at the Macomb County Jail on a $500,000 bond with a detainer from the U.S. Marshals. His next court date is scheduled for June 25.
