Jordan Hanson, 24, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received a 15-year prison sentence for fatally shooting her boyfriend in Hallock, Minnesota.
Hanson entered the plea a year after killing 43-year-old Justin Esparza on March 13, 2025. She used his own handgun and fled the scene in his truck with his dog.
Police found Esparza dead in his living room from a head wound. A witness who had smoked methamphetamine with the couple confirmed seeing Hanson shoot him.
Hanson returned to her mother's home and confessed. Her mother alerted authorities, leading to her arrest. During the arrest, Hanson made incoherent statements, including claiming she shot the arresting officer.
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison confirmed the details of the case. The sentence was handed down on July 8, 2026.
