Nintendo released a surprise update for the Switch version of Super Mario Galaxy 2, introducing a new epilogue chapter to Rosalina's storybook. The addition expands the game's lore more than a decade after its original release. Players can access it after clearing any galaxy and earning a power star.
Over a decade since Super Mario Galaxy 2's debut, Nintendo quietly rolled out an update for its Switch port on April 30. The update adds 'The Epilogue' to Rosalina's storybook, available once players unlock the Final Chapter by completing any galaxy for a power star. Eurogamer first detailed the change, noting its unexpected arrival as part of routine maintenance for the classic title. The new chapter depicts Rosalina venturing alone to a garden, where she witnesses two lights in the sky transform into suns, illuminating the area. She then converses with a young girl whose identity remains unconfirmed. Rosalina tells the girl, 'The strongest force in the galaxy is a heart that never gives up,' delivering a heartwarming close to the segment. Fans have speculated wildly about the girl's identity. Some suggest she is Princess Peach, linking to events in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, while others propose she represents a younger Rosalina. The movie, released earlier this month, earned two stars in Eurogamer's review, with critic Christian Donlan describing it as 'quite bad, for quite interesting reasons' due to its lack of memorable development for characters like Mario, Luigi, or Rosalina. The film is set for digital purchase starting Tuesday, May 5.
