Floods hitting Pekalongan due to extreme weather, breached dikes, and high tides have significantly disrupted train operations. On January 19, 2026, PT Kereta Api Indonesia's Daerah Operasi 1 Jakarta canceled 11 train journeys from Pasar Senen and Gambir stations. Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, stated, "KAI is canceling several train journeys to avoid greater potential delays if the trips continue." The cancellations include KA 178 Tawang Jaya Premium (departing 06.45 WIB), KA 204 Tegal Bahari (10.40 WIB), KA 7002A Gajayana Tambahan (00.10 WIB), KA 26 Argo Merbabu (06.00 WIB), KA 130B Papandayan (06.35 WIB), KA 50F Purwojaya (07.00 WIB), KA 20 Argo Muria (07.15 WIB), KA 2 Argo Bromo Anggrek (08.20 WIB), KA 138B Parahyangan (09.15 WIB), KA 58F Purwojaya (13.25 WIB), and KA 7004 Sembrani Tambahan (14.45 WIB).
Overall, from January 15 to 18, 2026, KAI recorded 82 passenger train cancellations in Daop 4 Semarang, particularly in Pekalongan, plus 16 freight trains and 76 delays. KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin explained, "Indeed, the extreme weather in the last 2-3 days has caused cancellations and delays in our train services." Ticket refund values reached Rp3.5 billion for that period, with 18,000 passengers out of 258,000 sold seats requesting refunds.
KAI guarantees 100 percent ticket refunds up to seven days after cancellation via station counters, Contact Center 121, or the Access by KAI app. KAI VP Corporate Communication Anne Purba emphasized, "As a form of responsibility to customers, KAI provides 100 percent ticket refunds in accordance with regulations." Franoto added, "Train travel safety is our top priority." KAI continues monitoring to restore normal operations.
