The Senate County Public Accounts Committee (CPAC), chaired by Moses Kajwang', has ordered Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to produce Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja before the committee on Monday, March 30. The committee seeks Sakaja's response to the Auditor General's report on audit queries for the 2024/2025 financial year, which flags Nairobi for irregularities and misappropriation of public resources. It has also fined Sakaja KSh 500,000, the maximum allowed by law, for failing to honour a previous summons. Kajwang' stated, 'We are asking the IG to produce Governor Sakaja before us on Monday, March 30. The distance between the IG's office and city hall is not the distance between IG's office and Samburu, so the IG should not give us excuses.' If Sakaja does not appear, the committee will recommend to the House that he has violated the constitution and is unfit to hold public office, forwarding this to the IEBC. The meeting revealed Sakaja had at least seven advisors each receiving an average of KSh 203,000. Due to his boycott, the committee will adopt the Auditor General's report as is. Sakaja has skipped summons multiple times, sometimes requesting rescheduling. Governors boycotting Senate committees is not uncommon; in February 2026, the Council of Governors accused the Kajwang'-led panel of intimidation. The committee has summoned 29 other governors, warning of House intervention for contempt if they fail to appear.
