South Korea defeated Trinidad and Tobago 5-0 in a pre-World Cup friendly on May 30 at BYU South Field in Provo, Utah. Ranked 25th, South Korea took control after a slow start with captain Son Heung-min scoring twice in the first half.
Cho Gue-sung added two more goals in the second half and Hwang Hee-chan converted a penalty. Son reached 56 international goals, two short of Cha Bum-kun's South Korean men's record.
Coach Hong Myung-bo used a back-three formation. The team will face El Salvador on June 4 at the same venue. South Korea opens its World Cup campaign against Czechia on June 11 in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Son said confidence was key after recent losses. Cho noted the value of everyone contributing on offense.
