The Pittsburgh Steelers selected wide receiver Germie Bernard in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft after trading up to acquire him. The team hopes the rookie can contribute immediately alongside veterans Michael Pittman Jr. and DK Metcalf.
Analyst Matt Harmon described Bernard as the ultimate glue guy who can block and make plays after the catch. He noted that Bernard excels in the intermediate routes and completes the receiving room.
Bernard recorded 50 catches for 794 yards and two touchdowns in 2024 at the college level. He followed that performance with 64 receptions for 862 yards and seven touchdowns in 2025.
The Steelers plan to use Bernard and Pittman in slot and Z roles while Metcalf serves as the primary X receiver. Early feedback from coaches and teammates has been positive regarding his attention to detail.
The team is aiming for a Super Bowl run this season and believes Bernard can adjust quickly to playing with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
