Philip Svedebäck, drafted by the Boston Bruins in 2021, is leaving college hockey and aiming to secure an NHL deal while staying in North America.
The 22-year-old Swedish goaltender spent the past four seasons at Providence College after developing in the Växjö Lakers junior system. He described the move away from college as bittersweet, noting the strong community ties and education he gained both on and off the ice.
Svedebäck's final NCAA season was limited to 18 games by a knee ligament injury that sidelined him for six weeks after Christmas. He told Hockeysverige that his time in North America has prepared him for the next step.
Boston retains his rights until August 15, preventing any official agreement before then. His agent has begun discussions, and Svedebäck said he plans to remain in North America regardless of the outcome.
He has not ruled out a possible return to Sweden later in his career but emphasized his readiness for whatever challenge comes next.
