Three youths detained after April hand grenade find in Uppsala

Three youths have been detained on suspicion of placing a live hand grenade outside an apartment building in central Uppsala's Höganäs district. The device was discovered in mid-April; police confirmed the arrests and charges on Friday.

On 14 April police were alerted to a suspicious object at a multi-family house in Höganäs. The national bomb squad attended and assessed it as a live hand grenade. A preliminary investigation was opened into attempted public endangerment.

After further investigative work, three youths were arrested earlier this week. On Friday afternoon Uppsala district court decided to detain them on suspicion of attempted gross public endangerment and serious violation of the law on handling flammable and explosive goods.

Police have since increased their presence in the area and installed several cameras. No further comments are being made at this time about the ongoing investigation.
