A large area in central Gothenburg was cordoned off after two suspected sharp objects were found near the Nordstan stop. The bomb squad took the objects for neutralization. The cordons were lifted later that evening.
The alarm came at 19:25 on Sunday evening, April 26. Two sharp objects were found near the Nordstan stop, not far from Gothenburg Central Station. People on site reacted to the objects, which were found together, according to police spokesperson Adam Isaksson Samara.
Police cordoned off a large area around Drottningtorget and Nordstan for examination. The bomb squad retrieved the objects to handle them safely elsewhere. “The objects have been assessed as sharp. For that reason, the bomb squad has taken them to neutralize them,” Isaksson Samara said.
Västtrafik halted tram traffic and several bus lines for hours, per press communicator Lars Jönsson. Witnesses reported a large police presence with cars, buses, plainclothes officers, and drones over the area. One witness saw a brown paper bag that police handled cautiously.
The incident is being investigated as a serious offense against the law on flammable and explosive goods. According to Aftonbladet sources, two girls under 18 have been detained on suspicion of involvement, but police do not comment on arrests.
