William Wiå signs with Tappara in Finland

Swedish forward William Wiå has signed a one-year contract with option for another year with Finnish champions Tappara after nearly 400 games in HockeyAllsvenskan.

The 27-year-old left Sweden for the move announced Thursday by the Tampere club. Wiå had played last season with Södertälje SK where he recorded 13 goals and 25 points in 52 games.

Tappara general manager Janne Vuorinen praised the player's defensive skills and steady improvement. He noted Wiå's Finnish roots and described him as a forward who handles pressure well.

Wiå began his career in Djurgården's system before moving to HockeyAllsvenskan in 2019. He accumulated 113 points across 392 games with clubs including Almtuna, Västervik and Södertälje.
