Alejandro ‘El Güero’ Burillo Azcárraga, exdirectivo de Televisa, dueño del Atlante e impulsor del Abierto Mexicano de Tenis, falleció el 16 de abril a los 74 años. La Federación Mexicana de Futbol y la organización del torneo confirmaron su deceso. Periodistas deportivos lamentaron su partida.

La Federación Mexicana de Futbol (FMF) confirmó el fallecimiento de Alejandro Burillo Azcárraga, exdirector de la Comisión de Selecciones Nacionales. “La familia del Futbol Mexicano lamenta el sensible fallecimiento de Alejandro Burillo Azcárraga, empresario, exdirector de la Comisión de Selecciones Nacionales, extendemos nuestras más sinceras condolencias”, expresó la FMF en X.

El Abierto Mexicano de Tenis, que Burillo impulsó desde su primera edición en 1993 en Ciudad de México y elevó de ATP 250 a 500, mudando la sede a Acapulco en 2001, también lamentó su muerte. Burillo, quien trabajó en Televisa y vendió sus acciones en 2000 a su primo Emilio Azcárraga Jean, ayudó a crear el Centro de Alto Rendimiento de la FMF.

José Ramón Fernández dijo: “Lo conocí bien y tuvimos muchos encuentros profesionales a lo largo de los años”. Fernando Schwartz escribió: “Duele y mucho. (...) ‘El Güero’ fue un gran guía, amigo y jefe de corazón”.

Burillo, nacido en 1951 en Ciudad de México, fue dueño del Atlante de 1996 a 2018, logrando el título en 2007 tras mudarlo a Cancún. Fundó Grupo Pegaso en 1996 y fue accionista de IXE Banco, Telefónica Movistar y Hotel Ventanas al Paraíso. Su cuerpo será velado en la capital.
