Djurgården received unwelcome news when prospect Viggo Björck decided to leave for the NHL this fall. The club now intends to recruit two players instead of one to keep the roster competitive.
The announcement came at midnight on July 11. Björck, an 18-year-old who broke out last season, will pursue an NHL roster spot starting this autumn.
Djurgården sports chief stated the club had prepared for the possibility. "We have known that this could become reality and have worked based on that scenario as well," he said. "With Viggo's decision we will now work to add two players instead of one to maintain the strength of our team building."
The team already added several players this summer, including Lucas Carlsson, Nikolas Brouillard and Lukas Vejdemo. A center is viewed as the top priority to replace Björck, with an additional forward also targeted.
