An unknown driver evaded a police check and fled along the A81 highway into Switzerland.
The driver was to be checked at a rest area near Nufringen in the Böblingen district. Instead he passed the checkpoint and fled toward Singen.
During the chase he drove at greatly excessive speed and repeatedly endangered other road users. He overtook on the hard shoulder, ignored stop signals and at times drove on the wrong side of the road.
Police deployed several precincts and a helicopter but could not stop the vehicle. The driver escaped across the border into Switzerland. The Ludwigsburg traffic police inspectorate is investigating and seeks witnesses.
