A technical defect triggered a fire in the cultural warehouse in Ueckermünde in the evening. Firefighters extinguished the blaze quickly with no injuries reported.
According to police, the fire was caused by a broken pottery oven. The interior of the listed half-timbered warehouse suffered heavy damage. The property damage is estimated at around 30,000 euros. Several fire departments with a total of 48 emergency personnel and nine vehicles responded. Holiday apartments above remained unaffected because the building was empty at the time of the fire. The cultural warehouse is operated by the association Speicher, founded in 1999. The building was intended to become a regional center for art, culture, crafts and tourism.
