A man in his 20s has died following a fire in a residential building in Vällingby, northwestern Stockholm. Three others escaped after a passerby raised the alarm. Police are investigating the incident as gross negligence and causing death.
On Saturday evening, October 25, 2025, emergency services were alerted to a fire in a standalone building used as a residence next to a school in Vällingby, northwestern Stockholm. The alarm came in at 17:38 due to heavy smoke development from the eaves, according to Roger Sverndal, operations officer at the rescue service.
A passerby raised the alarm and then knocked on the door, enabling three people to escape on their own. Smoke divers found a fourth person, a man in his 20s, who was unconscious. He was taken to hospital by ambulance but later died from his injuries, police announced just before midnight.
The fire was extinguished about an hour after the alarm, around 19:00. The cause of the fire remains unclear, said police spokesperson Daniel Wikdahl. The three other individuals have been interviewed as witnesses, and there is no suspect at this time.
The incident is being investigated as gross negligence endangering the public and causing another's death. The building is a detached residence adjacent to a school, and no further details on the identities of those involved have been released.
