Schmidt, a 23-year-old native of Midland, Michigan, stands at 6-foot-5 and weighs 225 pounds. Originally selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the third round, 96th overall, of the 2021 NHL Draft, he has played parts of three AHL seasons with the Syracuse Crunch (2024-26) and Lehigh Valley Phantoms (2025-26). This season, Schmidt recorded one assist and 60 penalty minutes in 29 games split between Syracuse and Lehigh Valley. Over his career, he has amassed seven points (three goals, four assists) and 139 penalty minutes in 79 AHL appearances. The Flyers had recently acquired Schmidt but noted he struggled to secure a consistent spot in the Phantoms' lineup amid a crowded defensive group.
In return, the Flyers gain Katchouk, a former second-round pick (51st overall) by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2016. The 27-year-old has appeared in 179 NHL games, scoring 15 goals and totaling 36 points. After being traded to the Wild on December 28, 2025, in exchange for forward Michael Milne, Katchouk posted three points (one goal, two assists) in eight games with the Iowa Wild this season. Described as a solid AHL performer with veteran NHL experience, Katchouk adds forward depth to the Phantoms.
