Denmark assembles this week for two preparatory games against Slovakia. Søgaard stands out as the team's only NHL player, having appeared in two games for Ottawa this season. Several other squad members bring prior experience from Swedish hockey leagues. Notable absences include Frederik Andersen, Denmark's top goaltender, who remains in the playoffs with the Carolina Hurricanes. The national team aims to build on last year's historic run, where they upset Canada in the quarterfinals before losses to Switzerland in the semifinals and Sweden in the bronze medal game. Denmark opens the 2026 IIHF World Championship on May 15 at 20:20 against Czechia in Group play, followed by a matchup against Sweden on May 17.
