German premiere of jules verne opera adaptation held in erfurt

The opera adaptation of jules verne's novel around the world in 80 days had its german premiere at theater erfurt. Composer jonathan dove created the music for the roughly 90-minute performance.

The work centers on a bet and a race against time. New characters max and josi from the present day take center stage. After an argument with his girlfriend, max magically enters the book and assists phileas fogg on his journey in 1872.

Josi appears repeatedly and raises social as well as climate issues. Director nina kühner stages the adventure from egypt through india and hong kong to new york and london.

Rafael helbig-kostka sang the role of max, johannes schwarz portrayed fogg and candela gotelli performed as josi. Costumes were designed by benita roth while clemens fieguth led the music. The audience called the ensemble back to the stage several times.
