The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has condemned recent claims suggesting political actors will influence the 2027 General Election.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) issued a statement on Tuesday, May 26, rejecting allegations that it could be influenced to manipulate the outcome of the 2027 General Election. Chairperson Erastus Ethekon signed the statement, which described the remarks as dangerous, reckless and baseless.
The commission said such statements risk distorting public perception of Kenya’s democratic processes and undermining confidence in future elections. It rejected claims that the IEBC is compromised by external influence and emphasised that its constitutional mandate under Article 88 rests solely with the commission.
The remarks followed comments by Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula during a United Democratic Alliance meeting in Lugari. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki later distanced the Kenya Kwanza administration from any suggestion of election interference.
IEBC noted that the Electoral Code of Conduct is not currently operational, as no election has been officially declared, and urged political actors to stop making premature statements about rigging.
