Kenya and France sign ksh227 million water and energy agreements

Kenya's National Treasury has signed two technical assistance agreements with France worth Ksh227 million to boost water infrastructure and clean energy projects. The deals were finalised in Nairobi shortly after French President Emmanuel Macron concluded his visit.

The National Treasury signed the agreements with France's Agence Française de Développement. One provides Euro 800,000, about Ksh121 million, for the Tana Cascade Masinga Dam Raising Project to increase water storage capacity. The second allocates Euro 700,000, or roughly Ksh106 million, to improve water services in Kisumu and Eldoret.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi co-signed the documents. Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale also met the French delegation to discuss universal health coverage, including financing and access to care.

The signing followed the two-day Africa Forward Summit co-hosted by President William Ruto and President Macron on May 11 and 12. The gathering produced the Nairobi Declaration and a €23 billion investment package for Africa.
