MAU leads Division I after day one of Vermont Nordic Championships

Mount Anthony Union High School dominated the boys' division on the first day of the Vermont State Nordic Championships. The Patriots secured the lead with strong individual and relay performances at Rikert Nordic Center. Their girls' team finished fourth overall.

The Vermont State Nordic Championships kicked off on Feb. 19 at Rikert Nordic Center in Ripton, featuring a 5k freestyle individual race and a team relay where four skiers each covered 2.5 kilometers. This format highlights both disciplines of cross-country skiing over two days, with the second day set for classic technique.

Mount Anthony Union High School's boys team took command of Division I, amassing 50 points to lead the field. Champlain Valley Union High School placed second with 74 points, while Mount Mansfield Union High School and Bellows Free Academy tied for third at 115 points. The MAU boys relay team claimed first place in 26:49.5, with Liam Mulligan, Carson Andrick, Henry Morrison, and Eli McEnaney delivering consistent pacing and transitions.

In the individual 5k race, Eli McEnaney finished fourth for MAU, followed by Henry Morrison in ninth, Liam Mulligan in 11th, and Carson Andrick in 19th. These results underscored the team's depth.

The MAU girls also performed well, with Aliyah Ivy-Leake leading in sixth place, Dana McEnaney in 11th, Weslyn Maguire-Jones in 15th, and Anastazie Lukosava in 24th. The team ended the day in fourth place overall.

Other notable contributors for MAU included boys Abeh Woods, Orion Breese, Max Cutsumpas, and Hunter Favreau, and girls Cai Moses and Nieve McKenna. In Division II, Arlington Memorial High School's Tobias Counts earned third place, showcasing regional talent.
