Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has claimed that the United Democratic Alliance is secretly planning to field candidates through the Democracy for Citizens Party in key races ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking to the press at the parliament buildings on Tuesday, Cherargei accused the ruling party of preparing to sponsor aspirants within the DCP, including for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat. He described the DCP nomination process as commercialised, stating it had become the highest auction in the house.
Cherargei further alleged that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had raised only a small fraction of a targeted Ksh2 billion during a recent trip to the United Kingdom. He said the former deputy president returned with roughly Ksh2 million or Ksh1.5 million from the Kenyan diaspora.
The senator maintained that the government would retain influence in the Mt Kenya region by backing candidates across party lines. Gachagua’s allies have rejected the claims about the fundraising trip, saying it was cut short to address domestic issues.
