Rigathi Gachagua appoints by-election losers to DCP executive roles

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has appointed three candidates who lost in the November 27, 2025, by-elections to key positions in the National Executive Council of his Democratic Congress Party (DCP). He praised their courage in representing party ideals during the contests. The appointments aim to bolster the party's structure as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.

On December 4, 2025, Rigathi Gachagua, the leader of the Democratic Congress Party (DCP), announced the appointments via his social media platforms. He selected individuals who had contested under the DCP banner but did not secure victories in the recent by-elections, recognizing their dedication.

Among those appointed is Stanley Kenga, who ran for the Magarini parliamentary seat. Kenga received 8,907 votes, falling short against ODM candidate Harrison Garama Kombe, who secured 17,909 votes.

Edgar Busiega was another appointee. He had planned to contest the Malava by-election for DCP but stepped aside due to a united opposition agreement. Instead, DCP backed DAP-K's Seth Panyako, who lost to UDA's David Ndakwa.

Simon Sonare, who vied for the Purko Ward Member of County Assembly position, also joins the council. He was defeated by United Democratic Party candidate Mpusia Alex.

Gachagua commended the group in his post: "You did an incredible job in the November 27, 2025, by-elections and held the party ideals with courage."

The DCP, launched on May 15, 2025, has already elected three Members of County Assembly in its inaugural year. These appointments are part of efforts to fortify the party, positioning it to challenge President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance in the 2027 polls.
