Sweden's women's curling team, led by skip Anna Hasselborg, won the Olympic gold medal with a narrow 6-5 victory over Switzerland on February 22, 2026, in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. This marks Sweden's fourth gold in the discipline and a medal in six consecutive Olympics. Switzerland claimed silver for the third time, their first since 2006.
The gold medal game at the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics featured a tense battle between Sweden and Switzerland. Sweden jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first end with takeout shots from Hasselborg. The teams blanked the second and third ends, then traded singles in the fourth and fifth, leaving Sweden ahead 3-1 at halftime.
Switzerland tied the score at 3-3 in the sixth end with two points on draws by Alina Pätz. Sweden added one in the seventh, but the eighth end proved pivotal: Hasselborg's light takeout left an opportunity, yet Pätz's double takeout missed, allowing Sweden to steal a point for a 5-3 lead. Switzerland responded with two in the ninth to tie it at 5-5.
In the tenth, Pätz's draw floated light, opening the button for Hasselborg's final takeout, securing the 6-5 win. Shooting percentages were close, with Switzerland at 85% overall but Sweden edging takeouts 36-35.
"It was a very well-played final. Sweden played great," Pätz said. "They beat us today, but I think we had our chances."
Hasselborg's team, including Sara McManus, Agnes Knochenhauer, and Sofia Scharback, earned their second Olympic gold after 2018, following bronze in 2022. Three members became mothers post-Beijing, with Hasselborg noting, “Becoming a mother, it’s not always easy to find that balance... But we found it at the right time.”
Knochenhauer, with medals in four Olympics, said, “I think it’s going to take some time for this to sink in, but I’m super proud of us.”
Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni, 46 and in her third Olympics, added, “It's maybe not quite the absolutely correct color, but it's pretty nice, so I love it.” Canada defeated the United States 10-7 for bronze. Sweden also won mixed doubles gold, totaling 12 Olympic curling medals, one behind Canada's 13.
