Anvisa orders recall of antibiotic batch with glass fragment

Anvisa ordered the recall of a batch of the injectable antibiotic Polycid after a piece of glass was found in a vial. The measure was published in the official gazette on Thursday.

The National Health Surveillance Agency ordered the recall of batch 2519879 of Polycid, manufactured by União Química Farmacêutica Nacional. The polymyxin B-based antibiotic is for hospital use.

The company began a voluntary recall after detecting a quality issue in one vial from the batch. So far, no cases of misuse or adverse effects have been reported.

Anvisa also ordered the recall of two other products. Clindamycin phosphate from Hypofarma, batch 24101854, shows yellowish coloration and foreign particles. Injectable physiological serum from Equipex, batch 2513588, had its recall ordered without a specified reason in the resolution.
