Body of Lucas Gámez, nine-year-old Argentine boy, found in Venezuela

Rescuers found the body of Lucas Gámez this Wednesday among the rubble of the Miramar building in La Guaira, Venezuela.

Lucas Gámez, from Buenos Aires and born in 2017, had turned nine on Monday. The boy was with his uncle in the building when the double earthquake struck on June 24.

Lucas’s parents, Blancalida Martínez Coronado and Marco Gámez, both Venezuelan, returned to Venezuela in January after more than ten years in Argentina. The child spent the day at the beach and returned to the apartment minutes before the first tremor.

After fourteen days of searching, a team of Brazilian rescuers found the body on Wednesday. The mother had shared a video Tuesday showing a symbolic birthday tribute for the boy.

Club Atlético Defensores de Belgrano, where Lucas played in the 2017 category, expressed sorrow over the loss and embraced the family.
