The director of the University of Chile Law School, Miguel González Lemus, sent a letter to Congress accusing companions of Deputy Javiera Rodríguez of carrying out provocations during her visit on May 29.
González Lemus defended the faculty statement and said Rodríguez’s companions made mocking gestures, filmed students constantly and sought to irritate them. He added that she was not the original guest and had not reported prior threats.
Deputy Rodríguez rejected the accusations and maintained that her team did not provoke anyone. She said she faced banners with Pinochet photos, spitting, shoving and shouting, and that everything was documented and sent to the university and police.
According to the letter, the activity lasted an hour and a half without interruptions and protests came from fewer than 40 people in a community of 2,500 students. The faculty opened a disciplinary investigation on June 5.
