The Colombian Navy announced the deployment of over 4,600 personnel along the Pacific coast to ensure security during the presidential elections on May 31.
The operation is part of Plan Democracia and will be led by the Pacific Naval Force. It will cover 17 municipalities across the departments of Nariño, Cauca, Chocó and Valle del Cauca.
Units include 12 maritime, 26 land, more than 30 riverine and four air-naval. They will conduct patrols and accompany voters in urban and rural areas.
The Navy will guard 308 polling stations and 455 voting tables for over 100,000 citizens. The effort will be coordinated with the National Army, National Police and the Registraduría through unified command posts.
